Keep your countertops clean

To help this busy family of 6 stay organized and clean we opted to maximize their cabinet storage. We kept all modern devices hidden from view in cabinets that sit on the counterops. Even the old house phone gets a hide out! The tall pantry with drawers underneath hide the toaster oven, blender and coffee maker. No worries, the electrician installed an outlet in the cabinet, so that the electronics can be used without taking them out of the cabinet.

Looking to save money on your new kitchen?

A pot filler sounds like a great idea, but the cost can get high. It is considered a luxury item. It requires plumbing and the cost of the filler. The high cost outweighs the benefits. However, if that is a must have, I always tell my clients to splurge on one item for their kitchen.

Wayside Kitchens tip of the day....

Don't skimp on under cabinet lights. We understand that we all try to save money when working on a kitchen remodel, but under cabinet lights are a must. They brighten the space as well as providing usefull task lighting. If you think "I will add them later", the cost is much greater. The electrician will have to deal with backsplash and cabinets already installed to "fish" the wiring making it more difficult therefore more costly.

Wayside Chat: Littleton, MA full kitchen remodel

Wayside Chat: Littleton, MA full kitchen remodel:

Antique makeover

Kitchen remodeling costs vary from job to job. Some kitchens are easier to remodel than others. For instance,

we are estimating the cost of remodeling a kitchen in an antique house in Acton. The house was built in the 1700's with a newer addition for the kitchen. However, the space where the kitchen is located has paneled walls, and the ceiling has beams and beadboard. We need to remove all these components in order to expedite the wiring and plumbing. Speaking of plumbing, we are moving the sink location and removing the laundry area from the kitchen and placing it in a small room off the entry foyer. The basement is a crawl space in most areas where the work is being done. We are facing a lot of challanges with this project and the cost can be must higher. The client should also have a "rainy" fund set aside for unforseen issues. We expect surprises!
